Detour - A New Art Collection
DETOUR
After almost 30 years of designing jewelry, I'm used to things being measured, shaped, balanced, and precise. I know what the finished piece is supposed to look like before I begin, and it's finished when it's just right.
Abstract painting is completely different for me. It's unplanned, messy, and intuitive. It has been a whole new way of creating for me. I usually begin with an idea, colors, or a feeling that I am trying to portray, but I rarely know exactly where the painting will end up. Most of the time it ends up being completely different than what I was aiming for. Some paintings feel like places I've been, some remind me of the water, travel, or moments from everyday life. While others seem to become something entirely of their own making and that I can't explain.
For a long time, I think I brought some of that perfectionism from jewelry design into my art. I wanted to understand where a painting was going and to make it just the way that I had planned it.
This is a small collection of six paintings on canvas and a few on paper. It is about discovery. Leaving room for the unexpected and allowing each painting to unfold rather than forcing it into a story or trying to make it perfect.
